An official at the Passport Office of the Consulate of Brazil in Hamburg, Germany, was honored as Righteous Among the Nations on June 3, 1982. Aracy de Carvalho-Guimarães Rosa helped Jews obtain Brazilian tourist visas and assisted immigrating Jews to evade the strict economic restrictions imposed by the Nazis. She took the valuables they were not permitted to take with them, smuggled them onboard the ships, and gave them to the departing emigrants.
