Consul-General of El Salvador in Geneva, Switzerland, was recognized as Righteous Among the Nations on May 3, 2010, for issuing citizenship certificates to Jews in Nazi-occupied countries. None of the passport recipients had any connection to El Salvador. Initially, the documents were issued in defiance of Salvadoran policy, and the rescue activities received governmental support only in 1944, following a shift in government.
