DR. MANUEL ANTONIO MUÑOZ BORRERO

Ecuador

(1891-1976)

Consul of Ecuador in Stockholm, Sweden, was honored as Righteous Among the Nations on February 2, 2014. After he issued 80 passports to Polish Jews in 1941, the Ecuadorian government fired Borrero and ordered the closing of the consulate. Although he was no longer authorized to use the legation offices, he continued to issue passports that were sent to Jews in occupied Europe, several of whom were saved from deportation to the death camps.
