EDUARDO PROPPER DE CALLEJON

Spain

(1895-1972)

First Secretary of the Spanish Embassy in Paris, was honored as Righteous Among the Nations on March 12, 2008. Following the fall of France in 1940, the Spanish and other embassies left Paris. Arriving in Bordeaux, Propper de Callejon was faced with the plight of refugees desperately trying to flee from France. He re-opened the abandoned Spanish consulate and issued visas to Jewish and other refugees. In March 1941 Propper de Callejon was transferred to Spanish Morocco and believed for the rest of his life that it was because of his actions to benefit Jews.
