PER ANGER

Sweden

(1913-2002)

Second Secretary of the Swedish Legation in Budapest, Hungary, was honored as Righteous Among the Nations on April 28, 1981, for his role in the rescue of Jews in Budapest. Anger issued provisional Swedish passports, and employed and hid Jews in Swedish-protected houses. After the arrival of Raoul Wallenberg in Budapest, Anger worked closely with him. Like Wallenberg, he risked his life to remove Jews from death marches and from the hands of the murderous Arrow Cross gangs.
